What is the Dimensional Formula of Coefficient of Elasticity?

Coefficient of Elasticity is defined as the ratio of stress and strain.
Mathematically

Coefficient of Elasticity = Stress/Strain

Now we know
Strain= Change in dimension/Original dimension
Stress = Force/ Area

Thus
Dimensional Formula of Stress= (M1L-1T-2)
Dimensional Formula of Strain= (M0L0T0)

Putting these values in above equation we get
Dimensional Formula of Coefficient of Elasticity= M1L-1T-2
SI units
of Coefficient of Elasticity is Nm-2

Please note the units of Coefficient of Elasticity are same as that of Stress, Pressure because Strain has no units.

What is the Dimensional Formula of Strain?

Strain is defined as change in dimension over original dimension. Now we know dimension has the units of L thus this means it has no dimensional formula and has no units.

Strain= Change in dimension/Original dimension
Thus
Dimensional Formula of Strain= (M0L1T0)/(M0L1T0)

Dimensional Formula of Strain= M0L0T0

Now we know dimension has the units of L thus same units cancel each other leaving numeric value only. So Strain has no SI unit.

What is the Dimensional Formula of Force Constant?

Force Constant is defined as force per unit displacement. The formula is

Force Constant= Force/Displacement
Dimensional Formula of Force = M1L1T-2
Dimensional Formula of Displacement = M0L1T0

So Dimensional Formula of Force Constant = M1L0T-2
SI unit of Force Constant is Nm-1

What is the Dimensional Formula of Surface Tension?

Surface Tension is defined as force per unit length. The formula is

Surface Tension= Force/Length
Dimensional Formula of Force = M1L1T-2
Divide it by Length L1

So Dimensional Formula of Surface Tension = M1L0T-2
SI unit of Surface Tension is Nm-1

What is the Dimensional Formula of Power?

Power is defined as work done per unit time. Its formula is

Power= Work/Time
Dimensional Formula of Work= M1L2T-2 Divide it by Time T1

So Dimensional Formula of Power= M1L2T-3
SI unit of Power is Watt represented by W
